The 2022 Citizen Satisfaction Survey rated the Trash and Recycling Program third highest of all City programs in terms of citizen approval. Here's how we compare to the region and the nation:

Recycling Rate

The City participates in the regularly scheduled Recycling Rate Survey produced by the Department of Environmental Quality.

Our cumulative recycling rate for the City in 2022 was 40% based on the total volume of trash and recycling. This includes businesses and residents.

Do I Pay for Trash & Recycling through Taxes?

Actually, the Trash and Recycling Program is an Enterprise Fund. The program does not draw any money from the General Fund that you pay your taxes into. Our program is run more like a small business within the City of Manassas, the program receives direct payments from residents and you pay for services through your utility bill, just like you pay for water, sewer, electric, and stormwater services.

NEW! We are expanding the Curbside Food Waste Composting Collection Program

Compost Crew is currently accepting new sign-ups from single family homes and for the majority of townhouse communities in the City. Georgian Hamlet, Cannon Ridge and Point of Woods will need a minimum of five households to sign up whereas the Landing at Cannon Branch will need a minimum of 10 households to sign up.
